A friend of mine has gone absolutely nuts over the DBX Quantum as an AD converter for a lot of his tracks, both straight through and using some of the tricks under the hood. Says it's supposed to be a killer master clock, too. Anybody else using one of these, and if so what's your experience? Heck of a lot cheaper than picking up an Apogee, plus with all the other processing things it does, could be a very handy tool...

There are worse things you can do, but there are better converters you can have.

Maybe, but then again, it doesn't sound like an Apogee either....

Well, the least expensive converters that give you good sound are the Lucids, so anything less than that won't rate, IMO..... if he's going nuts over it, perhaps he simply hasn't had much experience with good converters!

Blue Bear - Off Topic - I was just poking around your site and was intrigued by the oddly spaced wooden slats on the walls. I read an article a while back that recommended something like that but can't remember where. Would love to get some details on the design concept. Thanks!

I used to own the DBX Quantum. It's an underrated box, and if you can get one for around $500 it's a very good value in my opinion.

The Quantum can certainly be a nice box, but DBX has never been known for its converters and DSP:D

That's exactly why it is underrated and basically under-priced on the used market. It's a 96k box and the converters are actually quite good. Not as good as my new UA 2192, but better than pretty much anything else you'll find at that price (around $500 used). That's my opinion anyway, and I used to own a Quantum.
