Intro sounds like early Cure (Striplight) meets Radiohead (the Bends).
Fun the guitar is just a little aggressive beside the vocal.
You should listen to Cpt Matchbox Whoopie Band (Smoke Dreams).

Hi.
it sure was "naked" stuff, meaning no way to hide any thing in the mix. Cool stuff.

What space around the vocals?

Purist.

:)

If you do have something on the vocals, it's very, very tight -- to the point of being more a close doubler/quick slap, lacking real "space". This isn't a bad thing, because everything else is so very "naked" (good word, seeking).

It's a good effect considering the intimacy, but I wouldn't term it "space".

I mix naked sometimes

Sounded good on my end, vocals were a tad bright, but more from a personal taste that an issue. Bass, or low end of the guitar, had a nice sound.

Nice honest recording.

I put a delay on the vocal, and put the guitar through the same delay. I set the delay so that I could j-u-s-t make out the delay at the ends of notes, and then dialed it back 10%. When I muted the effect, it was clearly lacking. When I unmuted it, I couldn't hear the effect in itself. Perfect. I don't know if that counts as 'space'. I think so, but I'm not sure. Basically, it sounds different with the effect on it. But I take your point. It's subtle.

This has a cool, playful feel about it - sounds like an old song from the 1930s, but done in dobro style.

I really like that opening falsetto line. If it were me, I'd be looking to reintroduce that in some form at some point later on in the song - underneath the main vocal somewhere as a counter-melody. I don't know if it would fit, but if it can I think it could add something special.

I thought the vocal sounded great. Really clear. And dry. I, therefore, give it a big thumbs-up. :)

I'm hearing some hiss in the quieter sections.

In the intro, the vocal gets a little harsh. Just a bit. Maybe my ears are a little over-sensitive. The vocal and guitar compete just a bit as well right before the song kicks into gear.

Drums sound good.

Everything here is a nit-pick. Overall sounds very good. Good performances as well.

Rob, TripleM: I cut the vocals a bit and changed the brushes sound. Thanks for the ideas - they got me into it. And this is what happened when I considered what you said. :listeningmusic:
