i had a tascam 424 portastudio in the early 90's. let my cousin borrow it and havent seen it since. around 97-98 i got 2 alesis adat xt's for cheap. ended up selling those for a little more than i paid, and got a tascam 8 track. i can't remember the mode numberl. i believe it is currently still in my grandmother's basement somewhere. once i learned to mix digitally and emulate the sound i loved from my old boxes i never looked back

In the Igbo language of Nigeria, my surname means 'Who is with me ?' and I've found myself left out to dry at certain points in my life so it's kind of fitting that I'm a standalone kind of guy ! :D
I have 4 standalones, a Tascam 488 8 track, tascam_488.webp 2 AKAI DPS12i 12 tracks akai-dps12i.webpand a recently acquired Zoom MRS 8 mrs8_11.webpwhich I'm going to use for backward recording. Much as I love analog, grew up with it and learned to record on the 488, I'm in the process of phasing it out. Just got these 100 or so tunes to mix.........My aim is that this time in 2014, the Tascam and I shall no longer be bedfellows.
I love the AKAIs. In retrospect, maybe I should've gone with the DPS 16 or the 24 that Dogbreath has but hey.
I use one or the other of my recorders pretty much every day.

I started on the DPS 12, gave it to my brother who recently gave it to my son. Pretty cool, I think.
Sure wish I could get my hands on another DPS24 tho. :(
Not lookin forward to the day when I have to step into the 21st century and go computer route.
