DAW software & interfaces

am new to computer recording and want to setup a system to record a band live with a minimum of 8 inputs.
Any thoughts and suggestions is greatly appreciated.

My old (20 years) analog system (mixer, etc) is of little use now and I'm not sure what's the best way to go.

first decide what software you like... you aint gonna get shit dun if the software seems cludgy to you... you could do wosre than reaper as has been recommended... i have cubase... all the manus have specif ic usergroup sites... check them out... and while there start checking what enterfaces work well with it... which is the second thing.... question them as to what drivers are like for your OS... i've got a tascam fw controller here... but am looking at motu for integrating a mixer... they make one that would go well for you...

Not so much the reaper software though......

I use Sonar 7XL
