Checked out Sonar 5 Producer edition today. I have been using Pro Tools with my Mbox on PC for a few years but have recently been thinking about an interface with more inputs. I can upgrade to a Digi 002 rack which the 4 XLR's plus the other inputs, but what if i want more than that? The Presonus Firepod looked cool, a good price for that many inputs, plus it works with a wide range of software. I really dont like how PT limits you to using their hardware with their software.

Are there other DAW recording programs for Windows that are configured similarly to PT? In the brief time that i messed around with Sonar it seemed radically different. No Mix or Edit windows. I will have to check out some books on Sonar. I mainly record solo guitar and small acoustic ensembles.

I would just move to Mac but i have been using Windows for so long. Even for just a recording computer its hard to make the switch.

Have you checked out the M-Audio Project Mix? It'll give you 8xlr ins + 8 via ADAT lightpipe + you can still use Protools, albeit Protools M-Powered.

It seems like the way to go to me, if you want to stay with PT. Of course, if you want to get away from it, the M-Audio stuff works with everything (Cubase, Sonar, etc).

Was reading about the 002 Rack. I forgot about the four additional 1/4" analog ins. So they would require a preamp before hooking up a mic. So not to bad i guess. Its just a matter of if i wanna stay with PT or not i guess.
