I'm going to have to replace my computer. My question is there a place to buy PCs that are made for recording and already have the correct sound cards installed and have all the correct interfaces..

I guess what I"m looking for is a computer place who specilizes in DAW?

If it's PC then there are various but ADK Pro Audio springs to mind as a good one (google em). They will custom build to your specific needs and boast some pretty impressive music clients.
Avoid Best Buy etc, they have no cle as to what makes a good audio PC

Most Macs are also well executed for audio (except the last gen of Mac Books that did not all have FW)

bristol is right on.

find a shop that sells custom built PC's. They are going to have better components. If you go with a PC, I would see to it that XP is the OS. Vista alone sucks resources. I would also get a secodary internal SATA hard drive to store your data.

yeah, custom shop. that way you don't have to put up with and pay for all the crap you don't want or will NEVER USE and get all the stuff you do and will.

in my experience, it's best not to get your buddy who knows how to build and repair pc's to do this for you. a friend of mine opened a studio here in Denton, sunk thousands of dollars into getting the place fixed up and 4 months in, the super cool custom PC with lights and neat gadjits this guys "friend" had built for him (for just under $2000 (without software) crashed and DIED in the middle of my band's session. we were ALL but done tracking when the thing froze and would not restart or boot up. best to get something you're sinking serious cash for serious reasons from someone that's serious enough to put their company name and reputation behind it and offer refunds in the event of the motherboard overheating or hard drive failing or processor melting or anything else that might happen.

leave this stuff to the pro's.

i would recommend against the use of xp... xp is officially dead and on the way out in terms of support from ms. and despite service packs and patches that attempt to keep the system up to date and secure, just the shear age of the software has left it extremely vulnerable. if you decide to go that route best to never hook it up to the internet if you want to keep it fast and stable(of course i feel this way about any system being used as a daw, but particularly with xp). developer support is also on the way out and you may have problems with both some current and much up and coming software.
