Ok, i am quite experienced with midi and have been using a set up containing various drum machines and synths for a while. However, i have finally decided to step it up and purchase a DAW (cubase 5) and a Audio Interface (Lexicion Omega). I am fine with setting up the audio interface with cubase and everything runs fine although i have a slight problem.

I have an Alesis Multi Mix 8 Usb Mixer that i wish to set up along with my DAW and my interface. As it is USB is there anyway to plug both interface and mixer into the computer? or do i have to take the main out of the mixer and plug it into a line in on the interface?

Im not sure on the best way to set this up so i can have all my instruments running through the mixer alongside the DAW and everything playing through in the speakers at the same time.

Thanks in advance:)

Unfortunately, you can only use one interface at a time. So, you can take the mains from the mixer and go into the Lexicon, but that will only give you 2 channels out of your mixer, the left and right. I would just use the Lexicon and forget about the Alesis. The Lexicon will give you 8 simultaneous inputs so you can record 8 channels at a time.

That suits me for recording but is there no way to be able to control 2 electribes (stereo), a microkorg and perhaps one or 2 other instruments with midi signals from my computer while possibly having tracks or vst's playing on my Daw as well in a live situation?

The way i thought this could happen was have a line out from the interface plugged into a line in on the mixer along with all the instruments. Then midi cables 'daisy chained' from the computer.

For $50 more on your interface, you could have gotten a Tascam 1641 and you could do everything you want and more. Take back the Omega and stop limiting yourself to 2 track recording. :)
