Wow! Mine just arrived today, shipped from England yesterday as well....

We must have consecutive serial #s.......

Mick's been a busy boy :)

Yeah, please give your opinions on the BG1 when you've had some time to use it.

I ordered mine a couple of weeks ago... still haven't got a shipping date...

Ouch! Here's a good thread gone bad. I hope it works out for you!!

They tell you on their site that shipping can be as long as a month due to demand so everyone is put on a waiting list, it's nothing out of the ordinary at all.

Don't get me wrong... I'm not complaining here... I've got nothing but good to say about Mick and company... No surprises here... just my own obsessive need for instant gratification...

I just can't wait... but I have too

Send an email to Mick - he was really good at keeping me in the loop. What took long in my case was getting the check to clear. Once it had cleared my account, it literally was a couple of days until I got it.

All in all, working with Mick has to rate as one of my better customer service experiences.

I can't wait to try it out tonight (had a rehearsal last night...).

I've yet to hear a single bad word on DAV or it's products (well... a couple of missed solder joints on one unit.. but that's the risk of hand assembled units... And the unbalance saturation issue (I'm probably going to throw in a small SPST switch to lift the unuse signal conductor as a balance/unbalanced switch))

I'll leave Mick alone for now... I've haunted him enough with my oddball pre-purchase questions and requests

Patiently waiting... (not)

please let us know what you think of the BG1......i've got $800 burning a hole in my pocket and this thing is at about the top of the list. i need a pair of solid preamps (acoustic guitar, OH's and kick/snare top the list of applications).

it's either a BG1 or an RNP.....or save a lot more for an OSA rack and pres (or a 2NV or similar)......but the BG1 is high on the radar.

cheers,
wade

How much is the BG-1 anyways???? Can't find pricing on their site.

From what I know of OSA and what I know of DAV, those two items are worlds apart. OSA is more of a colored product along the vein of API/Neve Clones/etc...DAV is not colored..In terms of a clean, detailed preamp with a rich, euphonic character...nothing in my experience with DACS, GML, Grace, Millennia, Apogee or several others has come close to the BG-1. Easily my best purchase ever. I thought the millennia was the heat until I was turned on to DAV by another devotee of their products. They are must haves, IMHO. I needed 16 channels of no compromise preamps .Thank God DAV came along because 16 channels of millennia would have been hell on the bank account  . I find that with the DAV covering the majority of the preamplification, and supplementing the DAV channels with 4 additional channels of Pendulum MDP-1(a tube pre...but not with overbearing color like some...very subtle rich warm blanket sound)..my results have been stellar. My clients have never been happier. I do all classical music, but it is nice to see some rock guys pick up the DAV too. It is multi-faceted .Congrats on the purchase!

Ive heard very mixed reviews of OSA...shoddy build work stories abound on GS. Theres some rather ugly pictures some of the bad solder jobs there too...

Nathan Eldred fluffs them a lot but then again, he is a dealer of their products.so fwiw.

BG 1 and 2 use the same circuit but 2 has extra switches for phantom and
phase.
BG No 4 & 6 use the same circuit but no. 4 has filters and rotary switches.

BG No 1 costs 700
BG No 2 costs 1450
BG No 3 costs 2100
BG No's 4 & 5 cost 1700 each
BG No 6 costs 799

BG-2 has 66 db of gain. BG-1 has 59. BG1 can be modded to have 66.
All prices in U.S dollars, prices include shipping, but not local taxes[if any]the easiest and cheapest way to pay is with paypal
their account is mick@davelectronics.com
or you could send a dollar cheque

Due to high demand shipping can be between 14 - 21 days after payment is

I love the way my DAV sounds on acoustic guitar. I need to get some samples up .

FMR isnt in the same league, IMHO. Well.....the FMR sounds nice on amplified instruments, but on any sort of revealing/acoustic application, it sounded "grainy" and very noisy to me.

I was seriously thinking after a few more jobs about getting the BG 2, I just don't think 2 ch's would serfice. 4 ch's i would gladly pay the amount for.

I mean you think about it, you can use anywhere from 2 - 14 + mics on drums. So you'd have to have good pre's somewere else in there.

Think about an 8 ch DAV.

DAV is really really really good.
After using this preamp for 4 months, and hearing clips of it compared to the millenia preamps on GS, i've come to the conclusion that im gonna get more DAV amps. I do rock/pop - the DAV adds this subtle 'largeness' and fidelity to the sound that is desirable. It has no DI, but ive been messing with the pads, and routing synths through it again gives them this subtle, euphonic largeness. Cool preamp for sure. The DAV didnt radically change my sound, but adds this 'sheen' and fidelity to my mixes that were previously absent...
