I am searching for some advice on what I might purchase. Could anyone tell me which one of these cards...darla 24, gina or dman 2044 with breakout box, they would rather have?
I know everyones situations and needs are different, mine seem to change daily since I am really enjoying computer recording using ntracks and my cheapy soundcard, so I don't think I should limit myself with saying I only want 2 or 4 ins, 4 or 8 outs, etc. To tell you the truth, I really don't know, but do want a better soundcard. Sorry about not being more specific. I will have a 14 channel mixer soon, however, so I can use that. That should be interesting.
I can get the darla and gina for the same price, and the dman with box for $90 cheaper.
Which do you think would have better quality in sound transfer?
If you might have some suggestions as to how one might be more useful than the other, let me know.
I could go for a higher priced card, but maybe I should just start out with one of these?
I know I'm a little confused (from working swingshift probably, I never know what day it is) but I really want to try a different soundcard. I have a feeling I would like the difference.
Thanks a lot folks.

bobbo,

The Darla 24 has balanced I/O unlike the Gina, but Gina on the other hand does have Digital SPIF I/O. Getting either unit will allow you to expand down the road with the compatibility to add the Layla to your setup.

Thanks for the help.
Would it be correct in saying that for just me recording, it would be better to have more line outs than ins on a card, for mixing purposes and outside gear? I would like to buy a drumset someday when my studio has more room, but I could use the mixer to mix the set down to one or two tracks, right?
So, are more outs more important for me than ins.
Thanks

I f you are not recording drums or multiple instruments at one time, two inputs is all you will needs. I found that the more outputs from your PC, the more flexability your over all system will have. Later when your studio grows to inlude live drums, then invest in an interface that has at least 8 inputs.

Thanks for all the advice.
I think I will try the new darla and start from there, it seems to be what I would need.
It would be fun to have some room for some drums, but the two cats kind of own this basement/studio, and probably will for awhile. Thanks again.

Aren't Gina, Darla, and Layla off the market? I would look into this before buying anything.

I believe you are right tmcbrinn.
I did some looking and they are not to be found where they used to be. They don't have them on their web page or in some of the newest catalogs. I did not realize that they were being discontinued. Anybody know why? I am going to send them an email. If I get a response back, I will let you all know.

Hello.
I ordered a darla 24 from Zzounds.com, but they said that the status of the card is ? as for when it would be delivered from the manufacturer, which I believe is now Echo audio. I found their website at echoaudio.com, which was updated sept. 1999, so I am guessing that they are the ones who are producing them and that they are still being made and sold.
I am waiting also for an email from zzounds.com to give me a better answer. Oh well.

Keep on ZZsounds to make it right. These cards are still very much available. There has just been a change in the distribution network.
