Nice. Not sure I've heard that show, although the Etta James thing is kind of familiar.
I feel lucky to have seen Etta James at all, but with the Dead and Tower of Power behind her it was unforgettable.
I remember one NYE (closing of winterland 1978?) where Bill famously descended upon the crowd riding on a giant doobie.
Different years they dressed up the lift Bill rode on as different things.
I'm envious that you caught some of the early eighties. In retrospect, I think I really caught them on the downside...my first show was probably the best one musically that I saw. Oxford Plains in 1988 was tremendous fun though, and quite a memorable scene.
There were good shows in the early 80s but there were always iffy ones. It was part of the deal when you're taking chances musically. Some fans got so wound up about how they played on a given night or details like set lists etc. One time while playing Touch of Grey, during the line "I see you got your list out, say your piece and get out", all the stage lights went out and a bank of blinding white lights blasted the taper section. It was quite amusing.
Ok, I did whip up one (last?) mix this afternoon.
Sounds balanced to me.
