hello, and thanks in advance. i am considering purchasing one of these dtrs format multitracks and was curious of any opinions and/or advice. i will be using it with a Tascam m2516 console. i am curious of the differences, ie. pros, cons, unbalanced inputs, sync, ect? eventually i plan to get a tsr8, but for now it may be one of these. i was considering the 238, but now am leaning towards the DA's. any advice?

I have a da78 and two da38's
The pro is they are very good sounding units much better then the Alisis Adat machines and can be synced to most anything but the da38s do not have the internal word clock so what you are hooking it to will need it. the da78s do have the word clock.
one more pro is they are dropping in price and can be gotten much cheeper then a couple of years ago which leads us to the con. people are getting away from digital tape formats a lot of places have quit selling them altogether, the guitar centers here around the Mpls Minn area dont even sell the tapes for the machines any more I have been ordering them from a audio company here in town. It makes me realize that soon I may need to upgrade being that my decks are nearing that ill fated time when you have to replace the heads which costs about $500 per deck, so if I have to spend $1500 dollors pretty soon I have to decide whether to replace or fix ????
So think hard and long and make sure your happy with your decission.

:D I have the 2524 console, and the da-38, really like this combination.........

da MUTT

what tapes do you prefer basf, quantegy, sony, other, 30, 60, 90? thanks again.

If it has the symbal on the corner of the tape, I think it says TDIF but I cant remember for sure, I know it when I see it , it means its indorsed by tascam and they the tapes should work fine,
but as for myself I do tend to use Quantegy and Basf the most.
