hi, i am new to the homerecording bbs, but not so new to recording. most of my own experience has been with 4 tracks and adats. i did go to the recording workshop in chillicothe oh in 2001. and now i have finally saved up some money to buy some gear. i want a digital recorder, but right now just need 8 tracks. i have had a little experience with the D-90 and i really liked it. i have been looking on ebay to find one. what are your thoughts on this machine? strengths/weaknesses? thanks in advance, hope to spend a lot of time here now that i found this forum! hope that i can help others also.

Great machine....

You will need a decent mixer, (Mackie or better!)

But If you find one for a good price you will have a nice setup.

You can always add another unit and they will sync together with a midi cable and fibre optic.

Have fun;

well, i have an old alesis studio 24 here, i was just going to use that for now. that should be fine to start off with, just messing around at home shouldn't it?

I'm not familiar with the Alesis, but if it has tape sends and returns on each channel then life will be easy for you. Alternatively you would use sub-group outs to the recorder and bring the returns into individual channels.

I use a D160 through a Soundcraft 24/8 and it is a nice easy setup to work with.
