OK, here's the thing. I'm recording drums in my barn, and stuff like the snare and toms are sounding good enough, but whenever the cymbal is used, it makes this bizarre sound...like it's out of phase or distorted or something like that. I've tried using two different mics for overhead (AKG C1000S and SM57, the only kind i have) and various different spots around the set, too, and it always gets this weird sound. To hear what I mean, see

and please excuse the choice of music :P

Ok, I hear that sound, almost like a tape that is played in a messed up tape player.
This is how my band will record my kit. Do you have a nice big boom stand(we usually use 2 overheads though)? If you do stick that AKG on it in front of the kit. Now aim the mic face down torward the cymbal. Usually a good distance will be about3-4 feet above the cymbal, you are going to get the whole kit bleeding through but it should add a little more flavor to the sound.
Another thing that might cause that is the reverb off of the barn celeing. You might then try to make some sort of directional shade for the mic. Like take a cardboard box and cut it flat, then tape it somehow over the top of the mic so the only exposed part of the mic is facing down torward the kit.
The sound you have is really nice sounding (I am not a Korn fan at all though :-P). What kind of gear are you using?
Oh well I hope this helps or gives you a starting point.

Ishou,
Perhaps it's the hardware. A chum of mine had a similar problem i belive. Any time he would hit the cymbal, shortly after the attack it would buzz and make some god awful noise. Try using a diffrent stand, new felties or new wing nut. I hope that helps.
