Besides Boutique Audio and Marquette Labs who else does custom racking?

David Butler at DB Engineering. I think they can do custom racks. They deal with a lot of API stuff and do some custom racks for those. They may do others as well.

Ooops, I thought this was going to be a Pamela Anderson thread...My Bad.

Yes, Vintage King has LOTS of NIVCE toys! :)
But the custom racking they provide, is through Boutique Audio.

I just dont like the dual racks Boutique has, and Marquette's racks looks like they hired a high school metal shop to do 'em.

Oh well, the search continues.....

I built my own, an d it's sweet!

You might want to look into building your own.

I asked my Dad to help me, and we built a beautiful one out of some absolutely perfect pieces of pine that it only took us one Saturday afternoon to find, and it only cost us about $80 for the wood, and another $50 or so for all the hardware. We then cut, routered, and otherwise sculpted it it into the shape of a rack and assembled it on the next Saturday, then I sanded it every night for about a week and a half, then I spent a the whole next weekend getting the finish just right with many coats of Danish Oil and Oil based Polyurethane, then the next weekend, I put the hardware on (Brackets in the back, rails in the front, wheels on the bottom, only took an hour or so). And now it's done!

So, all you need is about a buck fifty or so, and lemmie count how many days I spent on it....

Oh My.

uhhh, maybe you want to just buy one....

Seriously, though, I wanted to build it with my Dad for other reasons, I just wanted to share....

That sounds like a great project.
But I'm not talking about a rack to hold gear that can be rack mounted, I'm talking about racking a module. Like a "Brent Averill" rack. Guy's got some of the nicest racks I've seen, but he doesn't do custom work. :(

oh man, I am even more clueless than I had previously thought, then...

Hmmmmm.... It seems (based on the google search I just did) that what you are referring to is when someone takes gear that was not originally rack mountable, and then puts it into cases, etc so that it is? Is that the deal? If not, is there a page or something that can explain?

The only thing I know is that I don't know anything.

Contact your local custom steel fabricator.. Thats all those places do... With exception, I highly doubt most of these "custom rack" places manufacture themselves....

In most cases it's probably out of a small shop or even a garage... Which explains the shitty quailty sometimes witnessed.

I am part owner of a large steel fabrication shop, and we do lots of racks for electrical gear...

When done right, they can look really "pro". We can do anything....

But we don't ship international...

Get your phonebook out, most large cities have these steel plants similar to mine.

Yes, exactly.
Take a look at some of these custom racks:

Those are OK racks, but I don't like the look.
I'm sure I could get a metal shop to do something like that, but how would you go about silk screening the face with a nice, durable baked on finish.

There's gotta be someplace that does this besides those 2.

Re: Re: oh man, I am even more clueless than I had previously thought, then...

Ahhh... I see. That is pretty cool. I din't know that was done.

Might Try...

Could ask DaviSound to do it for you. They do nothing but custom! I have a pair of Telefunken U373a compressor/limiters being custom racked by them in American Red Oak right now!

Just a suggested possibility...

Thanks RE.
I had stumbled across these guys before, but had forgotten all about them.
That might just be the ticket.
I'm still waiting to hear from "db" at DB Engineering as well.
