i am using a new toshiba laptop (XP) with the us-122 hooked up to my yamaha keyboard. i struggled thru the cubasis manual and believe i have actually recorded a file. nonethess i cannot get it to play back. the integrated audio in the Toshiba is "soundmax digital audio". cd's and system sounds play fine so i do not think the drivers are hammered. any ideas on what i am doing wrong or how i can get audio playback?

i cannot say i am thrilled with the cubasis user interface. any suggestions on software?

at this time i need something that is easy to use. 8 audio tracks is really plenty. just basically recording my piano playing. also, i am not hot to spend $300-500 on software, at least at this time.

thanks,

rob

Playback Device?

I'm afraid I'm not too familiar with XP, but in Windows 98 you have to set the preferred playback and recording device in the multimedia properties dialogue box. If it were set to your internal sound card then you wouldn't be able to hear playback through your US-122. Just a thought...

Check to make sure the "VST Outputs" are enabled. i.e. Devices > VST Outputs.

Have you got the USB cable going from the US122 to the computer? (I'm sure you do, I just wanted to remind you of the obvious.)

I'm not too keen on Cubasis's ease of use either. You can get Home Studio for $90, and the XL version for $150.
