Hi sorry for the length of this one but I want to be as comprehensive as possible. The problem I am having is that although you can see the levels changing when I try and play something back through Cubase (SX version 2) I can't get any sound. I had it working at one point but something must have changed and I don't know what! As you can tell I'm a bit of a novice at this and just want to be able to record my guitar while playing over a backing track. (My sound does work for other things - playing back through Media Player etc)
I have a Dell Dimension C521 that came with a SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC on board soundcard and Windows Vista Home Premium 32 - Bit. I have downloaded ASIO4ALL Beta v2.8 and this seems to work. It says that SigmaTel HDA CODEC In and Out are running. "Always resample 44.1kHz <-> 48KHz" is ticked and so is "Force WDM driver to 16-bit".
In Cubase if I goto Devices, Device Setup then VST Multitrack I get ASIO Driver "ASIO4ALL V2" which is correct as far as I know and "Big Ben" as the clock source (there are no other options in the drop down box!!!). If I click the Control Panel button I get to green music notes saying that the input and output of my soundcard is working.
For VST Outputs I have LineOut1, LineOut2 ..... all the way through to LineOut8 which all show as visible.
For the brief time it was working it recorded my Guitar as well which again the levels are changing when I play it but no sound on playback (despite the levels changing as they should).
Another problem that I seem to have, although this is secondary, when I click on Recording Devices it tells me that my Line In is working (which it is) but that the front and rear microphones are "Currently Unavailable" and they don't work. Any ideas how to change this?
Sorry again for the long post, thanks for the help.
