cubase input problems

i'm getting very frusterated, maybe one of you smart people can help me out. cubase will only recognize my mic in. i can't record anything through my line-in. i can hear everything through my line-in--i typically run my record player through my line-in to save space [living in a dorm and all]. so, the line-in obviously works, but neither ACIDmusic nor CuBase will recognize that it exists. Is there some setup menu I can't find or what? I've tried the instructions and the html help, but either I'm blind or stupid or a typical newbie--i can't figure it out. what the crap am i supposed to do to get cubase to record from my line-in?

Cubase VST?

What versio nof Cubase?

If it is cubase vst here are some ideas

1. Are the additional inuts enabled?
From the Panels drop down select vst inputs and see if the inputs are enabled(green light).

If they do not show up in this list let me know.

sorry, should've specified. it's Cubase SX. And no, the inputs don't show up on anything. The left and right of the mic-in show up on the VST Inputs window. The line-in does not show up anywhere. And again, the line-in definitely works--i use my record player all the time through it--and everything connected to it works. Cubase just doesn't seem to know it's there [nor does ACIDmusic]. And, f.y.i., I'm just trying to sample records right now. Eventually, I'll do other stuff, but at the moment I'm just sampling, so the only complication is that the inputs don't show up.
 
Your soundcard should have a mixer sectiojn where it will give you a choice of what is recording e.g. midi, line-in, wave, cd audio, auxiliary etc. Check to see what it's set for, that may be the problem. Welcome to the board Ryan!
 
If I understand correctly you cannot monitor your line in while using SX hence you must dectivate it in the windows mixer and find some other means to monitor the input
 
i got it to record with the line-in, thanks guys. as far as monitoring goes, i can monitor it through windows and just not have it monitor through Cubase, but when i'm recording actual guitar-type stuff, the latency makes it difficult to get it to sync up with everything. if i monitor it through cubase the latency makes it difficult to play along with. otherwise, it's all good.
