Cubase and the ASIO thing!

i posted ealier today under recording problems. while i've been waiting for a reply i have also been re-reading the Cubase instructions to see if i can figure out what is the recording problem i have.

in re-reading the ALPHA Studio Software Installation Guide it sends me to the Devices set up inside Cubase 4 (that's part of the Lexicon Alpha package). it says that under the VST Audio System, i should select Alpha ASIO. However, my computer doesn't provide this option. the only option i have is ASIO DirectX Full Duplex Driver. so i have two questions:

#1. would not having Alpha ASIO as an option under VST Audio System cause my inability to record?

#2. if this is the case, what do i do to resolve it? how do i get my computer to give me the three options in order to select Alpha ASIO as per the graphic provided in ALPHA Studio Software Installation Guide?

i work with an hp laptop pavillion ze5500 (a hand me down from my sister who use to buy expensive things for herself ;) ). Windows XP. i've done some recording of vocals using this computer with cakewalk Music Creator (i think is a much cheaper version of SONAR.) this is my first experience on trying to record from the keyboard to the computer using Lexicon Alpha which i bought in the hopes that it records the keyboard with a lot less scratchy noises that when i try to do through the line in port.

Hola Sirena, are you sure you have the ASIO driver installed for the Alpha?? It should be on the CD that came with the unit.

i cannot work on my recording project from where i'm today, my equipment is in a different place, but i'll try it tomorrow and hopefully it will work.

nobody said that i had to install anything but the program. i always wonder who are this people who assume that i know something that i have no reason to know before i buy some software!

thanks for the forums, otherwise all the music i have in my mind would still be there.

Every version of Cubase I used to use (I've moved on to Reaper now)
made you set up and activate the inputs and outputs before you could 'see' them.
It used to be F5.

Look it up in the help section (the help pages of programs are darned handy)
and you REALLY should keep a decent Cubase book around... you're gonna have
a LOT more questions and its easier to knock around the program with a reference
book in your hand than wait for someone on the internet!

The 'Cubase POWER' books were always good.
