Cubase 4 or DP5

I just got a new MacBook Pro, with the 2.33Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB of RAM. My Cubase SX3 i was running on PC won't load on it, so now I have to buy a new DAW program. I'm used to running SX3, so the switch to Cubase 4 should be very easy, but I've heard GREAT things about Digital Performer and it's a little cheaper. Anyone have experience with both of these and could lend me advice?

This is my opinion and only my opinion based on my experience. Steinberg is very Windows oriented and the Mac versions are second rate. Go with DP.

Actually, I know plenty of people using Steinberg apps on a mac. Generally I hear of fewer issues there so I would not really make that a consideration. That being said, DP5 is a really cool program that is very usable. Cubase 4 is still in it's infancy and I would seriously consider waiting for it to be around for another month or two before buying it. Have you considered approaching Steinberg about this situation?

Strong agreement on both points. Go with DP. If you already have Cubase, make sure you take advantage of the competitive upgrade pricing.

if you already know cubase i'ld stay there... i'm using C4 upgraded?crossgrade form nuendo2.6571+68165416816841... and have no complaints in fact there's al kindsa things to like about it... new way of organizing vst's etc... new synths including the soundset from the motif's big improvement in the included effects... i cant speak to the mac issue as i'm on a p4 but i havn't heard of any serious issues... there's always a little platform wars etc.. and realize that if you check out the forums of course there's bitching... most dont post there unless they need help right?????

The Cubase SX3 is supposed to load on the Mac right?

I'm thinking of switching to a Mac myself, and I need to be able to transfer my SX3..

Only PPC based Macs, it will only work via the emulator on the new macs (which is no good)

I really like Digital Performer and I'm a PC guy. I did a few projects on it and found some of the tools and tricks in it really nice. Then I missed them when I moved back to my PC.

DP5 is supposed to be even nicer. I swear, I think they took a list of feature requests I posted for BIAS Deck (which BIAS never implemented) and just went down the list and did every one of them.

I haven't upgraded yet, but I plan to do so at some point. Mainly, I was waiting for it to go Universal since they repeatedly refused to say whether getting the Universal version would be free for DP5 early adopters.

My favorite new feature in DP5 would be the slip and slide editing. That's something I've sorely missed in editing apps since I got used to the functionality in Mac OS 9 in Radius EditDV (video editing software). In particular, it should totally rock when you're splicing in a small piece of material, allowing you to easily slide the contents of the inserted piece to make the glitch as inaudible as possible.

I love that feature as well. Something I miss in any other app.
