Eternally Striving

Check these out and let me know what you think of the mix etc... One of these has been posted before a while back but there's been major changes.

there's some more at myspace.com/lossofanartist but the myspace compression obviously...

Overall, ver Nice!

I'm listening to the first one, and the mix is loud! Sounds really good. My only suggestion would to bring the vocals ut more, thy're a little burried. Sounds well sung, ilike the intro alot. The panning and effects are all well done imo .
Very nice!! I'd like the vocals out more so you don't have to work to understand them. Do you use any automation in the mix to control any levels?

Are these drums real? If so, what was your micing setup?

And yeah, what he said, the vocals are a little drowned. I had no trouble listening to it though, so good work.

Yeah, it seems my taste in mixing never has overly loud vocals. Sorry if you can't understand it though.

The drums are real. Actually the snares/toms are simply 57's going straight into a firepod. the kick is a beta 52 and the overheads are AKG 414s with a joe meek jm27 on the hats. The snare/kick was sampled out 50% normal, and 50% sample using drumagog. However, they are my own samples of the same kit.

The mics used on the snare sample is a 57 close miced, and a AT 3035 about 3 feet above the snare and a CAD cheap small condenser on the hole of the snare.

Kick sample was miced simply with the beta 52 a bit in the hole and a 57 on the beater side.

I do in some songs, in the first track I didn't use any. There wasn't much need to. Some simple fade out were all it needed.

On the 3rd song I posted, I used some automation to control the drum loops volume, and the backing vocals. There's some songs that I have that have heavy automation on the effects and volume levels, but these songs were more straight forward.

Good, good stuff. I like the tunes, arrangements, and performances a bunch.

I'd have to agree that the vocals should come up some in all of the tunes. They are definitely too good to be sitting down in the mix like that.

In the first song, the bass seems to drop out in parts, but that's more of how the line is going than the mix. I'd personally like to hear it going more.

In the second and third songs, the guitars seem a bit harsh...that's about the only major thing I hear.

The drawing of breath is pretty loud & gets annoying.
All sounds pretty good though the bass needs a little definition, the guitar tones are unremarkable & in the quiet bits the snare sounds remote & robotic - like Kraftwerks 1st LP - I assume that's deliberate.
Good performance & captured pretty well.
