Please critique the vocals and vocal mix. Just did 'em today. Not sure yet if I totally dig it. Let me know what's up....

Cool tune. Has some funk to it. I'd like to hear more bass. Probably a personal preference, as the mix is actually pretty cool. Nice tones. Vocals seem to sit well in this. Not way out front, just a part of the overall feel.

Nice bass sound, very funky sounding tune. I think you should try lowering/EQing the midrange (250-500hz) some. I hear some muddiness in the mix & I think that'll help it out.
Solid solo man, good sound with the harmonies and all.

That said after one quik listen: The vox needs a little more conviction here and there, and either the lead guit and / or the vox are in the wrong key in places.
I would re-record one or the other or both....
That said, jeez you got some REALLY nice sounds. I DO like the sound of the vox. Very up front. I would probably lose the delay and use some verb. The guit has great tone and I love that snare sound.

thanks to all, really. you said what I have been feeling. the delay was just to hide what I thought were weak vocals. At 2:11, it's hand drums, one of the live-est pieces in the mix (that is, the drum machine drops out entirely). I hear what you're saying about the key thing. I have a hard time soloing and singing in key. It's like I get so close, but yet not close enough. I understand the "conviction" statement. It's like some parts are heartfelt and others aren't. Dammit, I can't tell right when I do it though, but you are so correct.
I don't know if I can fix these kinds of items, or just let them be. My plan was to mixdown to analog (typical tape recorder or tape reel), and then final master in cooledit. Perhaps that will fix the "weirdness" factor. Thanks so much for listening. You guys rule.
snake: thanks for the actual hz (250-500hz) range to cut. I've got an EQ on order through Ebay that I will use when I mixdown to analog. I can now hone in on that range to get a good master. THANKS!

My plan was to dump the mix (recorded on Audacity) through an equalizer to a reel to reel recorder (an old one that's currently being delivered - this idea may or may not work), and then I'll put it back into the computer for final mastering touches (using Cool Edit).
I usually used Cool Edit to record, but this time around I couldn't get my imic to work very well with it, so I went with Audacity. Simple, but more or less effective. Just not too many editing options.
