Hey, would really like some advice on this song. It is a cover, just trying to get some decent sounds.

Are the vocals flat? The more I listen to it the more the vocals sound a little off. I think the vocals may have to much 'verb too....not sure though.

It lacks something I think too....like an overall "sheen" or something. ;)

Song Here

Everything was recorded with-
Rode NT-1
Presonus BlueTube Mic Pre
Presonus BlueMax Comp (vocals only)
Delta-44

I know the song doesn't sound very good, but I think it sounds better than the last piece o' crap I put up on here. I am hoping after you all give me your great advice and critiques then my next recording will be a little better than this one and so on.....

Thanks!

Hello,

I think the recording actually sounds pretty decent. Don't be so hard on yourself there. Do work on your timing a bit, and your vocals as well. I can tell that you can sing, but there are a lot of lost notes in the vocals. Sounds like maybe you are not to comfy with the timing of the song while singing and playing at the same time. Is that the case? This may be why you are under singing it a bit. Maybe you are concentrating too much on the timinng. Thanks for the listen though.

i agree that its a good recording.....i also agree you are undersinging......you have a very decent voice and you should push it a tad for optimum performance/tone......great job.....

Thanks guys!

I am a pretty timid singer when it comes to recording. But I think it is because I am having a hard time hearing my voice through my headphones......I am not doing something right when I monitor. I think this also does have a bit to do with my timing.

Record with a click track to help your timing. Not too bad. Lets hear something with some overdubs.

Overdubs? Um, I think I am overdubbing. :D hehe....I think so anyways.

I recorded the guitar first and the vocal second.....two seperate tracks.

I like your overall sound. The guitar sounds out of tune, first of all.

I am just starting myself, but as for overdubs, play around with a 2nd guitar - maybe straight picking.

Keep playing!

Yeah, I bet the guitar IS out of tune. I recorded the guitar part after having a few beers.

This song is supposed to be tuned a whole step below standard tuning, which I had it tuned as when I was learning to play it. I put the guitar away, come back after my little beer-drinking expedition, lay the track down to realize that it had been tuned back to standard tuning.....and it was probably out of tune a bit. Damn brother messing with my stuff. ;)

AMEN bro I had the exact same problem with the track I've been working on. Still not quite sure how to solve it.

Well if you solve the problem fill me in! And I will do the same.
