Hi Guys

Im pretty much a newby when it comes to using midi and soundfonts and samples etc...
but I got this feeling that I'm not using vsampler to its full potential in Sonar
That in a way Im bending backwards to do things that can be done in a much simpler way

my problem in sonar is that sometimes you need more then one .sf2 file to get the percussion or drums you want ..

so instead of adding another and another vsampler track in to sonar .. is there a way to combine several sf2 files (or other type of samples) in one
or reasign them to notes which are not used yet ...
that would be so much easier the the way I'm screwing around now in Sonar

thanx in advance

You only need to insert one Vsampler track. You can add several sf2 to build your own "multi" using patches of different sf2. To do so, make sure you expand "import" field. Click SF2 to import first soundfont. Once selected, the import field will show you patches contained in the sf2 selected. Double click the patch to upload the patch to multi. After it's loaded into multi, make sure you lock it. Now, select another slot on multi (eg. slot 2). Browse another soundfont to load. Do the same procedure. If you do it right, you can have up to 16 patches loaded in curent multi.

You can also save the library, create personal drum maps using different patches, etc. You better start a thread in Cakewalk forum...

thx for the reply james

at this moment I even have troubles to adress another patch from the same .vsb file in a second midi track ..
even though they are available in the dropdown list

its simply not possible to play both patches .. one of them is being replaced by silence

love the vsampler ..
but the user interface might have been a bit more intuitive then it is now ..
If only you know how it used to be on previous versions. It's getting better now, and I believe they should pay more attention on the GUI in next version... :)

got a good url to a howto or something like that?
Umh, I haven't searched for it. But some people in Cakewalk forum are willing to help if you have any problem.

Lets see if I can help. Using Drum maps with Vsampler involving setting on both VSampler and the Drum Maps configuration. Config VSampler first, then create drum maps later. Okay here we go...

First, I assume you already have sample project with drum track to try. Load it. Done? Great! Now, insert VSampler DXi on new track. Load soundfont (for example) GoldDrums.sf2. Load to patch 1 on current multi... you got it, eh? Great! The padlock will turn orange automaticaly, indicates it's locked now. Then browse another soundfont to load. Say BlueJayDrums.sf2. After you select it, you'll see it contains many patches within the sf2 bank. Select one, double click to load it to patch 2 on current multi. Lock it... it's not that difficult, right? :)

...Close VSampler. Now, open Drum maps from track's out field.

Now that the Drum map is open, you can assign each input key to particular out key (Red line), and port / channel as well. You must set different channel for each patches you use. Once you select different channel, you can assign different bank / patches on the field below it. So, for each instrument you use, you must use asociated channel.

Umh, I didn't see you edited your post... :o

BTW, are you sure they used different channel?

thx man ..
found that link too .. but thx anyway ...
never the less I still think vsampler s'got more tricks up its sleeve then I can imagine ..

for now I got it working by importing a single Vsampler DXI
by locking the difrent patches (thx to you) ...

but the thing I did wrong was the following
As you were stating I was adressing the same vsampler channel tru my midi tracks ..

unlike depicted here .. i was adressing channel none on both tracks ..

SoI guess I moved a step forward ...
but the thing you are trying to accomplish by means of the drummap is still a mystery to me ..

please do elaborate :)
