Hi i'm relativly new to digital recording and i'm running Cubase SX2 with a brand new EMU 0404. Problem is, when I record or mix any tracks on cubase I get a loud and annoying crackling noise. When I mix the track down to an mp3 or wav however the crackling is gone.
Can anyone help?

Actually I think i'd better also mention that the crackling seems to worsen when I move the mouse more (as strange as that sounds), and would it be related to the fact that my hard drive is almost full?
I know that these are probably really basic questions but i'd really appreciate any help.
Thanks.

Sounds like an issue with either the video card and or USB if you are using a USB mouse\keyboard.
You may want to check into updated drivers for just about everything .... video, soundcard and mobo.
IRQ sharing can sometimes create issues also. You may try moving the E-mu to a different slot.
You can also check into your PCI latency settings .

No i'm just using a normal mouse and keyboard, This may sound really stupid but I had no idea that a video card would be involved in the process at all.
Oh well learnt something new.
Thanks, I'll look into it.

Yes, because it's redrawing the screen all the time, which is why the crackling on the mouse movement may be an indicator that's the problem. You could try zooming right out (hence minimising redraws) and see if that makes a diff - if it does, points to the graphics set up.

Presumably you've checked that the CPU and disc performance indicator (F12) are not showing overloads? Just ask as you didn't mention it.
