Been busy of course. I've managed to sneek a couple of songs in. Really cool developments going on here.

Opinions or comments welcome. :)

listening on a peir of sen hd280's (phones)

really like your sounds, organic and pleasing. the only thing is that the kick may have a bit too much "whomp" possibly the snare also.

vox might come down, but that's just opinion.

thanks man....

Looking into the kick issue. It just might be a matter of compressing it a little. At least on most systems I've tried it out on, it seems to work out fine for now. Hey, feel free to ask questions on anything.

I'm always up for a good exchange of ideas. :)

i don't think it's overly dynamic, though some slow attack compression may help tame the envelope a little more.
mostly it just poped out as bassy (compaired to the other instruments in the songs) to me
it did not come across as uncontrolled.

Listening to the way..man sounds REAL good to me...

I love the panning of the guitar thing and just the over all sound of the guitars. I do agree that the kick and snare may be a tad loud, but I am on headphones oto.

Cool song and I think I made this comment before on a different song but I hear 311 a lot in the vocalist :)

*EDIT - Listening to Over Me now, again love the guitar sound. Do you mind sharing the chain or explaining how you tracking them?

Sounds awsome you got such a FULL sound. Guitar and drums. Your drum mainly your kick and snare sound are HUGE like you recorded in a 50x50 room?

NICE JOB.

No problems sharing! The guitar sounds come from the same Line 6 POD unit that I've used for previous recordings, except this time through a tiny 4 channel Mackie VLZ board. This time it was a highly crunched/Hi gain guitar sound.

Instead of comming out of guitar cab speakers, I went direct out through Tannoy Reveals and I miced that with an SM57. I'd say the mic was about 6 inches away between the tweeter and the speaker cone, on axis in a medium room.

Mixing wise, there was no compression applied, just a slight high shelf boost using a George Massenburg preset with Waves Q-Clone.

Exactly. Drums where done in a pretty large garage that some relatives of mine where kind enough to share. I loved it cause it was actually so rugged, and stuffed with boxes that it helped diffuse the sound a little.

Roughly, I'd say about that.....50x50 with about 15 ft high ceilings. No real sound treatments or anything like that.

Also one thing, and perhaps diserning to find out how unconventionally I did it:

One note about the particular quality to the sound thats new to this one that I haven't used before (in out of studio work) is the use of tape emulation.

And it was tape emulation in an unusual application. All the seperate tracks where run through Izotopes Trash Plug in. I used the default "delicate harmonics" setting, disabling all the other features of the plug in.

In the end, when you print that to each track, it gives it a pleasant and warm quality similar to analog tape. So when you start mixing the song, things gel a little better.

In compromise to slight loss of clarity, it smooths things out a bit.

Lee,
THE WAY - I love the sound of the L guitar in the 1st link passage around 0.35 - is it just a couple of strings & no FX or what? It's crunched/distorted on the 2nd time through. As usual I'm not wedded to the very distorted guitar sound but it is VERY contemporary.
Good song - this mob are pretty good.
OVER ME - something about this mob reminds me of the band who did FENCE SITTING though I don't know what.
The bass gets a little lost in this one - I can feel it but I think it needs a little EQ carving to define it.
Another good song - both well played & really well recorded.

Yeah, it's pretty bare bones actually. I mean guitars aren't carrying anything but some EQ basically. No verbs, or anything like that.

That bass definitely seems to be the object of my obession lately. It dosn't make it any easier with the shit preamps I get to use on this! :D

But no biggie, making due.

Hey, don't know if you or any of the gang are a fan of punk music, but I just put up a tune the guys worked up earlier today. (Meant to Fade)

Lee,

I just listened to "Not enough" and "Meant to Fade"

In my very humble opinion the production is an par with many of the major label releases in the same genre. Very impressive work.
