Could you damage a microphone by placing it inside an inflated balloon???

just make sure you lube up that mic before you go sticking it anywhere ;)

Sorry, that was deliciously out of line. :D

That's alright. But you might want to call Johnny Knoxville and tell him you have an idea for Jackass 3.

Ehhh, except with him a SM57 would probably have met it's match.

On a serious note, the condom idea is pretty cool and I have heard it does give some really interesting results.

I'm not too far off from trying it myself....with one of my POS mics first.

:D:D I've tried sticking a mic into a 3 pak man panties packaging tube :D:D

The urban legend is that you can put a nail in your wall with a SM58. SM57 is pretty much the same so you should be fine.

the legend is you can take a gun and shoot the 57 and nothing will happen apart from a small dent.

I once heard of a '57 that was trapped under a fallen tree while hiking in the Alps. After a couple of days, it cut it's OWN mic cable with nothing but it's own teeth.

:p

hear about the one where the 57 took on the New England Patriots and won 27-0?

Why you think something would sound good in a balloon is a whole problem in itself.

I read the beatles engineer Geoff Emerrick's biography and he said they tried putting a microphone in water only being protected by a bag. It obviously did not sound good but I dont think the mic was damaged.

please dont stick a microphone up your ass. I'll have to start questioning these mics I bought on ebay.

extreme elvis travels with his own mic for that very reason. sound guys started getting pissed off when he stuck their mics up his arse.

What ever happened to those guys anyway?

I never said it would sound good, but I'd assume it will sound different. It honestly seems like nobody on here has ever tried this or else I would have already been told what it sounds like. If it could be used for a cool effect though on one song, then I'll fuckin' use it. If it doesn't sound like somethingh I want to use, then I won't use it... but at least I'll have the personal experience of trying it out just to see. It's not like it will cost me anything to try it you know.

And for those of you asking how to mount this, you will only need to put about half of the mic inside the balloon, then use a few rubber bands to keep the balloon in place. that will still leave you enough room to mount it to any stand using a regular mic clip. I still have not had time to go to the store to get balloons, but I have a day off tomorrow, so I think that will be the day.
