Could you A/B a couple mixes for me please.

Well I'm glad to see that what my new speakers made me want to do is a good thing. I don't think I ever touched an eq when tweeking mix B. Just all processing & effects changes. Oh I did move the hi pass on the bass guit a bit.

When comparing I adjusted both versions to the exact same RMS as I always do.
I didn't notice any significant difference between them. I'd say, both are of equal quality.

It's not my video, but a good demo anyway. Sure, it depends on the song. This one here is a good example which is quite hot and it works despite of this. Nevertheless, there are many CDs obviously ruined by excessive compression or clipping.

Thanks. I have been really studying compression techniques. Even more so, techniques for not using as much :D On a rock song like this I am trying hard to get my apperent loudness up there pretty good via EQ with out making it harsh. The rest is pretty much ear on the compression. If I hear the sound start to get worse instead of better I've gone too far. I try to leave a decent bounce in the meters when done:)

I've recomended Bob Katz book a few times here. "Mastering Audio, The science and the art" is an awsome book. In fact I was wondering if Bob had put out that video when I was watching it. Anyways, it's a killer book, at least for dumb ass like me;) I think the name scares people off, but there's tons about mixing in there.
