I am a hip hop producer and I need to copywrite my beats but not sure about the best way to do it. I live in the uk and I've not been able to find out much useful info on the net, most information is american, obviously you have different laws and what not, so if there is anyone british here who knows about copywriting beats, please post a reply.

Thanks

In the UK, the position of the law is that as soon as something is written it is automatically copyrighted - which can be good or bad. I believe in the United States nothing is copyrighted until paperwork has been filled in or something...

Once you've written your music, it's up to you to be able to prove that YOU wrote it, so the best way to do it is to store a copy with a lawyer, so it's all official and can be produced in court:

"I will play the court a CD of 'F*ck b*tch Muthaf*cker', which was submitted by my client on 12th May 2006, over a year before Eminem released his single 'B*tch f*ck Muthaf*cker'. The jury will note the similarities..."

Another cheapie option is to post it to yourself, but I'm, not sure how admissable this would be in court, because that can easily be faked.
