What do people here use for drums (assuming you don't have a real kit that is)? Do you program the midi tracks yourselves and then convert to audio, or use prerecorded copyright free loops/samples/midi data?

I have a cd from Drumtrax - has anyone used these? - I have read the manual and it seems to me if you stuck a song on mp3 site and used their materials that it would not constitute copyright infringement. I'm clueless when it comes to programming drums - I need something ready-made (that I can mess around with but ready-made nevertheless). If you know of any other sources where I can exploit other people's materials wihtout getting myself into trouble - I would be glad to hear of them... Cheers - Malgo.

have you used fruity loops. I haven't used it but heard very good things about it. Also A cheap drum machine might be useful, you could use the pre programed drums and tweek with the tempo etc.

Yo Malgo Malgo Malgo spelled backwards is OGLAM. Now, there's a name!

Malgo: get yourself a Boss DR 770 drum machine and you can jam until your fingers fall off. There are 400 patches on the box; there are some Latin patches that are out of sight. And, when you push the play button a second time while a patch is playing, there is a transition to another patch which is wild.

There are ten or so ambience selections: small room, big room, hi-fi, studio, etc. Your choice.

The 770 is easy to use. Now, I haven't programmed the box yet but I have programmed other drum machines. The 770 is my third drum machine and it is the best sonically; as I told Kelly, New is good and technology gets better and better and better. [That's a rhetorical device which is in the text.]

Hey, see if you can listen to a 770. If not, I'll record you a tape of some of the patches and send it to you if you want.

There are no good drums samples for free. You can blow about 99 bucks at http://www.2dcd.com on some great acoustic samples though. (I use the "free" sample samples from thier page... shh, don't tell)

All these guys around here with the equipment and nothing much to do....and we STILL have no good free drum samples.

I'm not talking "sorta" good...I'm talking realistic. One of the crash samples at 2dcd.com is like 30 seconds long...now THAT is a real sample. I hate cymbals that cut out after 5 seconds. Rant rant.

While we're at it...when is somebody going to develope a DX plugin that mimics the noises that make a drum kit sound like a drum kit. Like when you thump the kick drum, the snare rattles...etc...etc.

To all those here who have access to real drums and have the power to record them.....count yourselves VERY lucky :)
