Copying wav.

Hey, just wondering if the sound quality of wav.-files decrease when you copy the file.

If you are making a copy, and keep it the same quality, it should always remain that way.

Yeah- it "should" but this has been hotly debated. There have been many who swear the files either "lose" quality or just sound different.

I say go ahead and make a copy and see for yourself.

If you're asking about a simple WAV to WAV copy on your computer,then the answer is a resounding NO. The WAV file is nothing more than another data file as far as your computer is concerned at that level; no different than a Word file, an Excel file or a bitmap picture file. No more data is changed when copying a WAV file than there is when making a copy of your spreadsheet, which is to say ZERO data is changed.

Now, if you're talking about copying the WAV file to MP3 or another non-bitmapped format, then it's a different ballgame altogether.

If you mean copying as in windows copy/paste command, then there is no degridation in sound quality at all - the only risk you would face is an error on the copying process which would result in a corrupt file, but this would be immediately noticable, you probly wouldn't be able to use it at all - not a 'generation loss' like copying from tape to tape.
