Well...

I thought this was promised in version 5...but it doesn't seem to work for my feeble efforts.

I select a clip; & go to the copy dialog (Edit > Copy)...& I can't select Clip Automation without also selecting Events in Tracks.

The help files give a weird explanation:
You can copy and paste envelopes or parts of envelopes between tracks and clips. You cannot, however, copy and paste a clip envelope without also copying and pasting the audio or MIDI data that is in that clip. If you paste a clip envelope into a track without the clip that it came from, the clip envelope becomes a track envelope.
So...I tried that (the last part...pasting the envelope only), but you can't paste the envelope without pasting the audio (&...I only want the blessed envelope.)

[BTW - The idea is to have the clip envelope available for audio events re-recorded as "near identical" (e.g., a MIDI sequence, where a slight change is made to the MIDI data & then re-recorded as audio. 'Or' a mixdown of multiple tracks to one...where a slight change was made to one of the tracks & then the group was mixed down again.) Would be nice to then grab the clip envelope from the original & paste it onto the new clip.]

Where am I going wrong?

Thanks,

mark4man

That's what I love about this forum...always a multitude of replies...

C'mon, man...I need to get this freakin' resolved !!!!!!!!!

I even sent an e-mail to tech support thru the Cakewalk website...& NO ONE responded...not one blessed soul !

Can some brainy blokes here PLEASE chime in...or somedamnbody?

This is still not working; & it should be a simple function (I had thought it was working in v2.2...but I had fooled myself...)

What happens is, the audio gets selected along with the shapes (even tho the audio is deselected in "Events View"...& even tho "Events in Tracks" does not pop up as an option in the Copy Dialog.) Then the copied audio pastes over the audio in the target track...[& I didn't notice right away that it was the source audio.]

Even tho "Clip Automation" is the only function selected in the Copy Dialog...the audio is still being copied & pasted.

This is extremely frustrating...I need to be able to do this for reasons of workflow on my current CD project (as I am re-recording & bouncing original audio from v5 for comparison to v2.2.) I need to be able to copy & paste clip envelopes from previously recorded tracks onto newly recorded (near identical) tracks for purposes of comparison...that's all.

[Or...for anybody...for whatever workflow reason...]

You can copy & paste Track envelopes...why not Clip ...for God's sake???

I looked at it, didn't see an answer -so I didn't respond.

Sorry Wayne...

Got a bit unruly there...wonder if there actually is a solution?

so, you want to copy a clip WITH the voloum envelope,do I understand right?
Jim

I gave it a go. What I did was copy the sound and envelope into another track than deleted the audio. The envelope was still there. If you copy to track that has audio, just delete the unwanted audio. Not sure if that helps. Also, I never get emails answered from Cakewalk. They suck. You have to call till you get someone.

Albertm...

That must have been a Track Envelope.

When I copy a Clip Envelope & audio to an adjacent track...the Envelope deletes w/ the audio.

BTW - & I agree...Cakewalk tech support really stinks up the joint nowadays. Roland used to be the worst...they would put snotty California cadets on the line, who would then condescend to you as they solved the problem. But...at least they solved the problem. With Cake...you get zip.
