When ever I get a cool sound I love to share it and hope that someone will do the same.

It's nothing extravagant or exotic it was just a snare tone I particularly liked.

So I put a condenser mic (a LDC in my case GT 67) parallel to the snare with the capsule about 3 inches from the rim. It was about 6 inches off of the head pointing straight down. And that's pretty much it haha. I was just really surprised with the how accurate the tone was. It definitely wasn't like anything I've heard before (from my own recordings).

Well that's all I got, try it out and let me know if it works for you or not.

Thanks,

Wouldn't that be perpendicular?

Sorry, I meant the diaphragm was pointing straight down, as if you were mic'n the floor...but from like 3 feet off the ground if that makes any sense

I hope this diagram makes some sense

Any sound clips of it?

That'd be nice.

I've been lookin' for different methods of miking my drums and getting a better sound.

I would imagine that you would catch some reflected sound of the snares, which would be cool, plus some shell sound.
Probably another benefit would be lessening of the initial transient of the hit which would allow you to hear more of the body of the sound.
