Cool Edit Pro questions....

I downloaded a demo of Cool Edit Pro today and I liked it.
Then I realised that it can record every track from the same input. Does this mean that if I buy a 4 input soundcard instead of an 8, I can still record the maximum amount of tracks, but only 4 at a time (without a sub-mixer, which I am probably getting anyway)?
Also, I can't find how to put in effects? Is this in the demo version or just the full version?

Yeah, that's right - four tracks at a time, and you just keep adding tracks until you run out of tracks in Cool Edit. You're limited by the soundcard, not Cool Edit.

As for effects, I think the download demo doesn't have any effects, but if you get the full version, it has loads of effects. The only thing you need to be aware of with Cool Edit effects is that it doesn't do some of its effects in real time, which means it takes some time for Cool Edit to apply some effects to tracks before you get to listen to it. You wind up sitting around looking at the screen or making yourself a cup of coffee sometimes. You can also use Cool Edit for direct-X plug-ins (effects), loads of which you can download from the internet.
 
Right now I am using CEP with a Gadgetlabs Wave/824. The mixing board is an old Tascam 524- 24 by 16 by 8 by 2.

The gadgetlabs takes the sub outs nice and clean.
I mastered a 16 track tape into CEP and I had the drums on 1,2 bass on 3, guitars on 5 and 6 separated and vocals on 7 and 8 separated.

Then I went and added about 15 more tracks.

I THINK there is an upper limit on how many tracks you can have with CEP, but it is a high number.

I prefer versions 1.1 and 1.2, the DSP/FX plugins work better with those. I believe CEP 2000 requires a multitracking plugin? I haven't messed with it yet.

Both older versions have superior noise reduction. Not that I needed it at all with the Wave/824 card.

Also, although CEP is a great multitracker, I use Sound Forge and Wavelab for different mastering stages, Steinberg Free Filter will only work with Wavelab, and Sound Forge applies dynamics processers like Waves RCL and XFX Mulltiband Dynamics better that CEP (in my opinion- It's all what you are trying to do with the shit).

Plus I use CD Architect to burn audio. Hell if I find something better I'll use it.
