Have a Mac G5 2.5, turntable, cassette player/recorder, iMic & preamp. NEED to learn how to convert vinyl & cassettes to CD. Have iTunes, but no software worth a dam that actually works. Have the splitter cable from the amp or cassette amp, but cannot for the life of me get the music INTO the computer. H-E-L-P

I can help. Here is what I do. Since the cables on your turntable should be RCA's, get a Y-cable that goes from RCA to one 1/8 plug. Hook that into your line-input on your sound card. Never hook anything into your microphone-input (assuming you have a cheaper card with a micro input for a computer mic)
i do not know what software you are using. You need to configure your software to record from your line input. Play your vinyl, and hit record on the software. I would let the whole side record onto one file, then go back later and split it.

Audacity.

By the way, the converters built into the G5 are much better than the iMic. Hook it up to the built-in input, and use the built-in output on the -back-. The front one isn't quite as clean noise-wise.

Audacity is a great freebie.

if you don't mind spending a small amount of money, Acoustica has some useable noise/hiss/click/pop removal tools as well as being a bit prettier and more intuitive than Audacity.

It has a fully featured 30 day free trial and it costs around $35 if you should wish to continue using it beyond that period.
