Hey all:

J.M.Penn tried to explain how to do this, but what he said was too far over my head...I can apparently only send files 3mb or less. I don't have any somgs that are 3mb or less. How do I convert a file (compress?) to make it fit within the required size parameters and not lose resolution (my stuff is muddy enough already...) I use MusicMatch.

I think I got too technical in the email. Anyway an mp3 is typically about a tenth the size of a 16 bit wav. file. So, the wav. file is around 10 mb a minute and the mp3 converted at the usual 128Kbps is about 1 mb a minute. Three minute song = 3 mb.

Sometimes that's too big to email. Some programs can make them smaller than that....down to 96Kbps or 64Kbps, so a file saved at 64Kbps is half the size of one at 128 or 1.5 mb at three minutes which is something you can email. The loss in audio quality at 64Kbps is noticeable but still sounds ok. Another way to make an mp3 file smaller is to convert the 16 bit wav. file to mono before converting to mp3, that would take that song I sent you last night from 35.6 mb to 17.8, so you could make an mp3 at 128Kbps and get to half size that way.
