Ok, on this thread I need to discuss the acoustics of my control room. My room is very strange. It's about 7 feet high, 7 feet deep and 30 feet wide. I mix a few feet right of center on the long wall which faces my studio and vocal booth. Some have suggested mixing on the 7 foot wall but because of the door placement and the fact that my bed is on the other side of the room I really don't have that option. Luckily, (I think) just behind the mix position is a closet that is 6 feet wide and 3'6" deep. I've taken the doors off so that I have a space of 10'6" for 6 feet right where I'm mixing. The control room is actually under my front porch and that closet is built into the stairway, so the top 1/3 or so is at a 45 degree angle. I hope you guys can picture this. I know I should draw up a floor plan and post it. Anyway, I don't have any acoustic treatment up right now. My mixes are not translating well on other systems at all. I have access to lots of free high end aoustic material. I just need to know what to get and where to put it. That's!

Rufuss,

What exactly can you get for free? (And high end?)

The two primary types of treatment - aside from diffusors - are bass traps and mid/high frequency absorbers. Fiberglass or foam are fine for the mids and highs, but neither are adequate for bass frequencies.

Without knowing what you have available, it's impossible to recommend where to put it!
