Control a Hardware Synth with DAW via Midi

So I'm using Presonus Studio One 2.6.1, I'm willing to check out other DAW's if S1 doesn't have this. What I want to do is hook my Hardware synth and control it from my DAW. Where if I put a midi note in, it'll play a sound from the keyboard. Is this possible?

I don't know about Presonus Studio One, but I'd be hard pressed to think of any DAW that can't do this. I've been doing this for, literally, decades -- using a keyboard controller to play MIDI into the DAW with the DAW using one or more outboard MIDI sound sources (including other keyboards) to play the sound. Just enable MIDI THRU in the DAW.
