Well, I finally removed the garage door and all the trim and am ready to fit the window. Am diggiing large trench in front of foundation for drainage pipes and stone to keep it dry. Bought the pipes today and should have the window installed within two weeks. Then I can start work on the interior.

Have the trenches (drainage ditches) finished and am waiting on delivery of the stone tomorrow. Someone was supposed to come and help with the mason work but it doesnt look like he will ever come through. I would frame it out instead but I have the water problem there and need mason work. Will probably have to hire someone since I have never done any mason work and if I attempt it alone I will probably have to hire someone to come and redo it anyway. Now I have to figure how to lay out the 500 sq ft or so I have for studio space.

Do have any pics of the outside structure so we can see what you're dealing with? I'd love to see these trenches too ... that sounds like a big project all by itself! Hang in there...
check with Brian Grey or Ola to get some pics uploaded to

Big Kahuna, you talked me into it. I took some before pictures but the garage door was allready removed. I took some of the inside and the trenches before I installed the drainage pipes and rock and after. Now all I have to do is get them developed, they can probably make a jpeg for me where they develop them??
Anyway, thanks, this serves two purposes, now I can also prove that the drainage is there if I ever sell the house.

Well I finally got the wall built, next framing and installing the window.

Sounds like a big project

Hey that is a cool thing your doing... love to see pics of it to see how serious this studio is going to be. You make everything look like it is possible. Great job and good luck.

Filled up the holes in the block with concrete and anchored the sill today. Will finish framing the window opening tomorrow and hopefully set the window. The window ways between 200 and 300 pounds and is 4x8, will have future son in law here and maybe someone else to help.

My future son in law had to bail out for tomorrow so it looks like I'll just be framing. Oh well. I am planning on laying half the floor after this. A 12 by 21 area, I guess I should figure the lumber requirements now.
I havent had the pics I took developed yet and I very rarely take pictures, I can have them made into jpegs where they get developed cant I? anyone?

Yeah most photo shops now can give you a cd for extra money.... which I find much easier than dealing with the scanner. Well hope you get that huge window up and it won't break.... whoops now I cursed you you. j/k! Well looks like a big project and hope you get it to sound sweet. Well good luck.

Heretic

Got the window framed in now all I need is a couple o good ole boys to help me lift the damn thing. My first time shooting a nail gun, yippie io kia.

I'd give you a hand, but it's a long walk to your place from here. ;)
where is that lazy-ass son in law?! he knows he's not earning any points with you, right?

if you can sneak a pic or two, that would be cool ... I know this project's been a long time coming. It would be great to see what you're up to.
Keep at it...

>My future son in law had to bail out for tomorrow

Hopefully he was getting laid and not:

Waylaid.

You did say "Bail Out"...... :D

slightly ontopic

im not building anything, but is it easier/more efficient to use sliding doors instead of windows and doors? you see you get a bigger viewing plane between rooms with the sliding doors, but how is the STC?

This window is in an outer wall. I thought of patio doors but way to expensive, plus I had a water problem there and sliding glass doors just wouldnt do in that spot. This has to be able to be turned into a family room when I sell the house.

Everything is caulked and painted and the window goes in tomorrow.Yay. reading this thread it has been a long time, but the first stage has happened.

It wasnt a false alarm this time. The future son-in-law showed up and the window is now in. Thank the forces that be for strong young men.

This thread has become more or less a chronological record of my progress. No need for any responses. At this rate I will be done sometime 2004. Am doing the landscaping where I dug and painting now. Will start on floor in two weeks. Me and the boys can now play in there at least.
