I have a Triton KB and a Korg Digital Multi-tracker. The Triton has an IN, OUT and THRU MIDI connection. The Multi-tracker only has an IN and OUT MIDI connection. How do I connect these devices so that I can separate my Triton tracks on the mult-tracker?

Do I need to buy a third-party MIDI interface?

My test setup is simply OUT from the Triton to the IN on the Multi-tracker and the same vice versa - but this is not completely separating the instruments from the keyboard on the multi-tracker. I can manipulate the settings of the keyboard with the sliders on the multi-tracker but that is about it. I only see the first two tracks on the meters, but not the other 7 channels.

You only need the midi Thru to daisy chain more midi slave devices. So hook your outs to ins and ins to outs.

Uh, no.

The tracker will most likely only respond to MTC (midi time code) so you only need to use the out of the triton. This is probably the only reason that the multi tracker has midi and it will not allow you to track anything

you record them as separate audio tracks

Just to clarify, as altitude says you record the Triton to the Korg as audio tracks, and since the Triton has multiple audio outs you can leave each of them hooked up to a mono line in on the Korg.

Then change the assignments in the Triton as to what's coming out of which audio output --- you do this in the multi page.

If you want to use the Triton's onboard sequencer you would hook up the audio outputs the same way, but switch the midi connection from midi out on the Korg to midi in on the Triton, then go into the global screen on the Triton and set the sequencer clock to external. If the Korg has 'clock out' options (check your manual) set it to midi clock. If not the Triton will have to use Midi Time Code or the connection will fail.
