Can I connect the vf16 with the vf16ex. I want to see how I could record more than 8 tracks at a time. I read in the manual about using a vc-8 or a d824mkII, but it doesn't say if to vf16's could be connected.

thanks,

Yes you can. You can use machine 1 to provide 8 channels of ADAT into machine 2. Along with the 8 analogue channels, machine 2 will then record on 16 tracks. (in other words you use machine 1 instead of a VC8).

You could sync the machines together and record 16 at once, but with a total of 32 tracks available for playback (with 16 virtual tracks). The FAQ in the support section of Fostex.com deals with sync'ing - you need a MIDI connection and an optical connection between the machines.

If you have both machines, more power to ya and follow orc's response. If not, and you're only looking to record to all 16 tracks at once, get the Behringer ADA8000. It adds 8 usable channels with pre amps and phantom power, hooks up with an optical cable and runs about $200.00. It really makes a difference with the VF160EX, especially when recording a live band with multiple drum mics etc.
