my guitar playing 14 yr old, wanting to record his work, has cobbled together three items that has him confused and I , of course, am useless.

he has cakewalk homestudio on the pc as well as an m-audio delta 44 card in it...he also has a tascam 424 mkII..the delta also came with gigastudio 24...

does he have a lot of confusing redundency here?...he doesn't have a preamp so a mic in front of his amp was how he recorded on the 424...he thought the delta44 would be a better way of getting the tape track into the pc but is it?...was it a waste to get the delta44?

thanks jer01001

you have a nice delta 44 and cakewalk home studio very good choice. Now in the place of the tascam any mixer would do fine. You can still use the tascam if you are ok with it. You can plug in your guitar straight to tascam or if itis acoustic going through a mic into the tascam and then to the delta is perfectly fine. Tascam has built in preamps, so you dont have to worry about it either.
When you are concerned about recording quality, replace the tascam with a good mixer. Good Luck!
