Confused about drum set

I got my drum set from eBay, and its a cheap piece of crap. Further more, I didn't even assemble it, so I have a question about drum sets.

I don't want to buy a set of drums, but instead I want to buy several drums individually. For example, Sonor orce 3005 doesn't have any drum sets with 24x17.5 bass drum, but you can buy them individually. So heres my question:
If I buy a bass drum and a tom, will the mounting system on the bass drum to attach the tom be there already, or would I have to buy it separately? I'm not sure if my question is too clear...

If they don't mount, you can always get a rack or a stand to mount the toms to.

thats a problem, cuz i basically want my set to look exactly like Danny Carey from Tool, and if I mounted them on a stand, it would be harder to reach, and harder to place my cymbvals, since I have a lot of cymbals.

i don't think its really necessary to have the setup "look" exactly like someone elses, since it should be setup to where you're most comfortable with it. if you got a rack to mount the toms on, one that goes over the kick, then they should still be able to be kept pretty close together, and in pretty much the same place they would be if they were mounted to the kick. i could be wrong because im not a drummer, but from what i've noticed, kick drums that dont have the hole in em with toms mounted on top tend to sound better than those that do. so sound-wise too you might be better off with a rack if the mounting hole isnt there already.

With most companies, if you order individual drums, you have to specify whether and where you want the hardware and what type. A sales rep will be able to help you piece it together. It may add to the individual cost but it shouldn't add up to more than an already assembled kit.

That makes no sense at all. I haven't used a tom mounted on my kicks since the mid 90's, and I've had no problem reaching my cymbals.

And I've seen pictures of one of DC's kits with the 8" & 10" on a Tom stand, between the two kicks. I don't know how many cymbals you use, but I have a dozen, any decent boom stand will get a cymbal where you need it.

Look what we have here! The 8" & 10" toms are on a tom stand, not the kicks.

He has a Double-tom stand between the kicks, and then a Double-boom cymbal stand in front of that.

I run 2 bass, 7 toms, 2 rides, remote hihat, 4 splash and 6 crashes on 2 PDP racks. I can reach everything with no problems. To me, it's far more important to have a setup that I like, rather than setting it up like someone else, but that's me. I actually have a "non-standard" setup. For instance, my hihat is in the center, directly above the snare. But everything is very comfortable to me, and that is what counts.

Very Nice! Kit isn't bad either.

what kit?

'til' don't worry about the mount...as many others have aluded to, stands will get you where you need...and imho, your toms will sound better.

silly

set your kit up the way that it feels most comfortable to you. if that happens to be the way danny carey sets his up, then great, but i wouldn't put that as my top priority. sound and comfort should be your top priorities - you'll be a better player for it in the end.

OK, in case you people want to know why I want to set my set like Danny Carey...

The first time I went to the Danny Carey website, I noticed a bunch of things. First of all, he used Paiste cymbals and Evans drum heads. Well, maybe it wasn't the wisest thing to do, but I got em both. Paiste cymbals have beaten every single cymbal I have ever tried (and plus, if I hadn't gotten em, I would still eb stuck with my Sabian Solar YUCK). I tried a few Z and K Customs, and also a bunch of AAX Metal, HHX Evolution cymbals, and none of them had the same kind of sound as my Paiste Signatures. I didn't really liek Sabian, and K Customs were nice, but Z Customs didn't sound good. Paiste is the only cymbal comapny that makes good heavy cymbals... but thats just my opinion. As for the Evans drum heads... the Power Center snare head is fucking awesome. IMO, its the ebst snare head, ever. And the G2's and G1's also sound nice on the toms (i never got to replace my bass durm heads). Finally... and this is the most important part... After a lot of experimentation, I basically tried setting up my cymbals everywhere. Finally, I tried doing what my Danny Carey did... and I loved it. I had my favorite crash near me, the entire ride was accessable, and the main crashes were in reach. Thats why I want my set to be liek Danny Carey's. SO far, I have not gone wrong with anything I did from hsi website. Even his drum sticks r awesome (tapered ends, long, heavy... my favorite sticks).

In cocnlusion, im trying to set my set like Danny Carey's because... well... basically hes full of good ideas that I also find to be very comfortable.

well that makes sense if it's working for you. whenever i bang on drums i use my cousin's set, and i pretty much hate the way he has it set up, even though its like the only set i've ever played on (and i try to play almost every day). i'm just too lazy to move it around, and then put it back for him. he puts his cymbals up too high, and his hi hats are too close, and the snare is too far to the side. luckily for you, you found someone else's setup that works well for you. i still recommend getting a rack to put the toms on, you can put em anywhere you like w/o having them interefere with the sound of the kick.
