The delta has better drivers, better sound and lower latency (says my new friend James :) )

Above all: with a different card (anything other than a Creative card) people will finally take me seriously. :D

But I'm not sure about the Delta yet. Perhaps it IS overkill. Look, I don't need the two inputs at the same time (I always record one track after another). But I do want my guitar and my mic constantly plugged in at the same time. Don't want to switch the cables when recording (because it's annoying and it possibly wears out the jacks and sockets) and I don't want to buy an external mixer...

So basically I'm looking for something like the Audigy, but just slightly better. LOL

Why won't you have an external mixer? Maybe a small mixer and a Audiophile would be the best sollution... :)

Hey, this is actually pretty cool! Thanks for the tip, Moskus!

(o, perhaps you're interested to know I've put up some of my music in the mp3 clinic/nowhereradio.com :) )

I'll check your music out in the very near future. Great! Maybe I need to post some mixes...

Errrrrrrr, Audiophile or Delta or Terratec....that's the question.

...Umh... Sorry, I come too late to this one :(

Does that one come with a frontpanel, James?

...Yup.

You'll have to do a feature-by-feature comparison and decide which is the one that's right for you.

My Terratec EWX 24/96 has a neat feature that allows me to connect the digital output from my CD-ROM to the audiocard. The downside is that the connector on the audiocard is jumpered either to allow digital signal from the CD-ROM or enable the S/PDIF. It doesn't permit both :(

If I was to choose again I'd seriously consider the Audiophile or the Terratec DMX6 Fire.

I would go for the Audiophile if I was a HomeStudio-user... :)

What's cool about the Audophile, Moskus?

And where can I find your music? I'm curious like hell!

If your budget was unlimited :D you could look at the RME Hammerfall audio cards. Probably the best available...

Hey moskus,

Is it possible with that small Behringer mixer and the Audiophile 2496 to monitor both your line in mix and cakewalk’s playback at the same time through the headphone out?

And also, if you have both a mic and a guitar plugged in and played them together, can you record them to separate tracks?

…thinking about upgrading from SB Live.

TIA

Yes, and you don't need a mixer either;)

Two stereo tracks? I see that the card has only one pair of RCA inputs.

Whaddya want to record stereo for? A guitar isn't stereo, nor are most mics. Two inputs, one mic one guitar, away you go.:) No probs.

Lack of a CD input on a soundcard isn't a problem anymore. All recent CD drives and software support audio extraction from the CD streamed over the pci bus. Microsoft call it Digital Audio Extraction and it is enabled by default since Windows 98.

I don't have an Audiophile or a small Behringer, but I would certainly guess so. There should be no problems, just wire it correctly... ;)

Also, there seems to be a problem with plugins with lookahead functionality (like WaveArts Trackplug, their customer support is amazing btw). Problem: dropouts as long as the length of the lookahead time, appearing at precisely the latency buffers multiplied to the effective latency (so 2 buffers X 100ms with a lookahead time of 2ms results in a 2ms dropout appearing at 200ms). I've mailed with Bill from WaveArts and he confirmed it's a HS2002 problem and it doesn't appear in SONAR. Again, I've mailed Cakewalk support....still no answer.

I think it's only fair to mention that this bug turned out to be a WaveArts bug, not HS2002. Thanks to the wonderful Bill - a man who should have the word 'support' get tattoed on his forehead - the problem was fixed in two weeks. Very friendly, thankful, thoughtful & above all: fast. Cakewalk support could learn a lot from this guy. So triple hoorah for WaveArts (Yeah, I know it's spam, but after all my nagging about HS2002 I thought I felt I had to say this)

Yes, maybe CakeWalk support guys should have tattooed on their foreheads
