This test is really odd!

According to the description of the test (which is in German, I am afraid), they put the microphones 80cm in front of the speakers (mackie hr-824 near-field monitor) of a cd player. Then they put in a "sample cd" which contained 2-min samples of drums, snare, hihat, shaker, bass, akustic guitar, e-guitar, piano, orchestra, saxophone und vocals. Finally, they post the 160kbps mp3s on their websites.

Is there anything that could be learned from such a test?? I mean, this test has nothing to do with real-world recording situations.

Dunno you tell me

I could hear differences in sound on crashsymbals and electric guitar parts ...

you could say the question still remains after listening to these mp3's but it could give you an idea as to whether a certain mic is appropriate for your needs ...

the fact that they put up the SAME tests for all kinda different mics is what makes this test interesting ...

of cource this test doesnt depict the dynamic behaviour of these intruments but it might shed a light on their capabilities to record which EQ bands ..
