if i wanted to mic a concert with just 2 stereo condensors what would you use?

im thing of either ecm8000s or 603s

but the problem with the 8000s is im thinking it will pick up ass much audience noise as music...

problem with the 603s is it will pick up more of what there pointing at, say the guitar, than bass, or drums

how would you guys position the mics

if anyone has any eperience with this microphones can you please just give me a minute of your time, and gimme some advice

It depends on where you'll be placing the mics. If they'll be up close, right on the instruments or within several feet, use the 8000's as the music will be much louder than the audience noise. If they're too close, though, they'll emphasize the instruments they are closest to.

If they'll be out in front more than several feet away, I'd use the 603's. They have a wide cardioid pattern and should encompass a fairly wide field of instruments, but reject most noise coming from behind.

If you're mic'ing amped instruments and PA, I think you'll have to be way out front, but then you'll start getting too much room acoustics and reverb.

Others here know a lot more about this than I do - maybe someone will give you a better answer.

so- if im using the 8000s tehy should be right up one the band, becuase if theyre over the crowd they will pick up them too much....how about if i put 2 8000s right at the edge of the stage head heigth do you think that will pick up the band equally?
or how do you suggest placing each of of the mics

What kind of band (instruments) are you recording? Acoustic or amped?

How big is the stage?

How big is the venue?

Are there PA speakers? If so, where are they placed?

its just a house party so nothing much- stage is 9x15 and the whole room is like 30x15 give or take....were a rock band...si we got drums, bass and rhythm guitar to the left, lead guitar to the right, singer right in the middle, and speakers sitting right off and to the side of each end of the stage, last time we put the speakers on stands (dont know if that matters).....the guitars and bass are all coming through the own cabinets...the drums arent miced

last time i mic our little house party with one shure condenser no cardiod so like the ecm8000s i think--and it picked up WAY to much room noise but was behind and right above the crowd so that may be why

I guess I would start by using the 603's above and slightly in front of the PA speakers, pointing at the band from each side. That should reject most of the crowd noise and give a fairly even image of the instruments. You'll have to experiment with the placement of the PA speakers so you get the voice to balance with the instruments.

It's going to be a compromise between what sounds good live and what sounds good recorded.
