Sticking 4 sticks of ram into a dual channel mainboard actually slows down system performance because the memory controller has to use bank interleave mode to read, write and refresh each stick of ram. this causes a significant drop in overall system performance. However 4 sticks of 512mb of ram will be faster IF the application uses all the ram rather than 2 sticks of 1Gb.
I never said anything about 4 sticks, 3 sticks of 512 will outperform 2 sticks of 512 in dual channel is all I said.

AMD X2 3800+
2gb DDR
200gb HD (80 + 120)
Geforce 7900GTX 512mb PCI-E Video
M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 Audio
Asus motherboard

I'm about to swap my mb/cpu out for a Pentium D though...

May I ask why you are going to swap. It's been proven over and over again that the X2's spank the PD's in most everything.

...And if you do swap, does that mean you will have an X2 for sale :D

yeah, Pentium D's are garbage compared to AMD's X2. That's not opinion, that's factual.

i'm running an older system, with upgrades here and there. It'd be nice to have a dedicated system for music, but mine is also for multimedia/entertainment. so you'll see some "forbidden" objects for recording, but they work for me nicely, and i dont have any problems...

AMD Athlon 64 2600+ (2.08GHz)
1GB RAM
120GB HDD (internal)
250GB WD Caviar SE HDD (external)
Audigy 2 ZS Platinum
ATI All-In-Wonder 9600XT
15" Flat Panel

lmao the pentium D i was getting was the pentium D EE 955 it's 3.46ghz, 4mb cache (2 per core), and 8gb of crucial memory. The motherboard I got for it is a ECS motherboard that supports up to 16gb of DDR2,

I got a soyodragon mobo with a 2.8ghz p4 and 1gig of ram. Running decent. I'm having some issues with the hard drives since i reformatted. But i havn't been recording anything large so i'll have time to fix that in the upcomming month.

Tell ya the truth, I just don't like the way the mac's deal with different files. I don't feel they "Just work". My pc can read any file type and import any file type regardless of sample rate etc. I dont find that macs work nicely like that. I do like garage band for making quick background music tracks for video projects. That leads me to final cut. Same arguments. The mac just doesnt work nicely. It doesnt regonise video cameras as nicely as my pc does, and things that take only one step in programs like vegas video take 15 in premir. Sorry got off topic of audio recording.

Logic 7, is a good program for audio recording on macs. I have to say i like using it. Reminds me of sonar in the way of being very versatile and able to adapt to any project, unlike protools.

Just my thoughts.

So i'll stick with PC for now. I do think it would be benifical to have a mac also for those times when mac tools would work better.

So it's not like i wont use them....just like the way the pc works better.

Guess someone needs to take a looky here:

Now I know that those are based on the 800 Series Pentium D's and the 840 EE, but the switch to the Presler core was an incremental difference, and the X2's still come out on top. Biggest reasons are that the memory controller of the X2 is on die, and the Pentium D's have to communicate through the FSB, whereas the X2 does not.

Now...When the new Conroe's come out ( I think late July) that may be a different story. We'll see.

As I said before, if you've got an X2 for sale then I may be interested if the price is right.
