hey, I have a firepod and I need a new computer to run it smoothly. Obviously I do not need the internet what-so-ever. I just want a smooth running system that will give me no problems running a bunch of mics through it and recording using sonar... are these okay... which one

or do you recommend another computer that will be great and run smoothly?

Here's my opinion, I am not a big fan of the E-machines but they have come a long way. The first choice has the power and RAM as apposed to the second which i would stay away from.

It depends on what you plan on doing and how much. I would recommend getting on the Dell site and poking around. I recommend looking for something with the most RAM (1GB or more). For the $500 you would spend for the E-Machines, you can get a pretty nice Dell. I picked up a 310 for like $500 with 1GB and a P4. Now that AMD is a good processor too so look around and see.

Hope this helps...

What do you plan for recording S/W? Are you gonna use the LE?

BTW... good choice on the Firepod!! I love mine

I personally built my own computer, and I find it's much cheaper, sometimes half the price of buying from a manufacturer. Obviously, if you dont feel comfortable doing this, maybe find a friend who could?

thanks a lot for the help, I'll look into each one. And no I won't be using the LE, the LE sucks since its so limited, I'll probably be using Sonar 3. Thanks

One problem I have with both of those is that they have a shared video card, meaning that the video shares the RAM for its memory. This could be bad news for audio apps, since they tend to use ram in the equation.
