I get asked all the time about whether it is better to leave them running all the time or just shut them down when not in use.
I live by the later policy. While I have had a few of my multitude of PCs & drives fail over the years (includeing several recently, as detailed in The Cave), I can't recall one ever failing on bootup.
I agree that for an audio workstation the best policy is to disable standby / hibernation / screensavers and just let it run, and then shut it down when you are not going to be actually useing it again for awhile.
