and another thing......

The 34 track session opened up at 264 Meg so just a for instance...what if I only had 512 meg to start then halved it to 256.......... the 264Meg session would play just fine?

Well? You gonna try loading that session with only 256mb of RAM

You see dumbass, I played back a session with 207 tracks in it the other day.

I'm enjoying the drama, but I have to ask. 207 tracks? I have a feeling I'll be sorry, but wtf do you need 207 tracks for?

I didn't "need" 207 tracks. I just wanted to see how many track I could play back.

I might just take it to the limit. I was always wondering how many tracks the cpu and hard drive can handle.

Maybe I will get on this in a bit. I will load as many tracks as I can before the cpu usage is too high, then I will remove a stick of ram. SURELY, I won't be able to play back the project then right?

I will also note the RAM usage of the project before and after removing the stick of RAM.

you really don't get it do you?

I have 2 sticks of dual channel DDR400, both 512Meg. How do you suppose I manage to get my ram count down to 256?

And you're calling me a dumbass?

Here's another one.....

I have 8 projects saved to HD

I've loaded each one into cubase SX seperately and checked my "available physical RAM" after loading each one

wanna have a guess at what happened anyone?

That's right, each session left me with a different figure for available physical ram...as you'd expect.

Case closed.

Doesn't matter what it used up.

The POINT is that RAM has no effect on how many tracks you can play back at once.

And yes, I AM calling your a dumbass because you seem to keep avoiding that point about this whole thread!

Oh grow up ya stupid bugger!

Are you insisting to continue this because of the point I made in THIS THREAD that you tried oh so hard to undermine before I came up with two simple solutions to your hypothetical flaws in my suggestions?

Come on...just how many are you prepared to take for the team before you get ring sting? :)

Undermine? You crack me up crackfool!

Hypothetical flaws. LOL...that is rich. I would be glad to NEVER look to you for solutions to the REAL problems that come up all the time in studio wiring.

Poor LemmingTree, just can't win one today.

What is really rich here is how you STILL can't account for why I can play back a project that is VERY large with a paultry 256mb of RAM.

I'll just put another point on the board for the team! ;)
