I have a Presonus TubePre that I would like to use as a preamp to record vocals and acoustic guitar to my home computer. Can I connect it direct to my plain old Soundblaster PCI 128 sound line-in, using a standard instrument cable reduced to a 1/8"? Am I better off upgrading the soundcard?

Thanks,
Sam

You can, but SoundBlasters are gamer cards, with lots of noise - not a particularly good thing for recording music.

Agreed for sure - and by updating your soundcard you can also potentially take advantage of the balanced outs on your preamp...
